From Spreadsheets to Seamless Living: Building a Roommate Management App
Faced with the challenge of managing shared living responsibilities, I developed a comprehensive apartment management system using Glide, a no-code platform. The app's core feature is an automated cleaning rotation system that assigns weekly duties to roommates using a mathematical formula, eliminating confusion about task ownership while maintaining flexibility through manual overrides.
The system expanded to include inventory management for household supplies and an automated trash disposal rotation. These features operate on similar principles, automatically assigning responsibilities while allowing adjustments for real-world situations like exam weeks or travel.
Despite Glide's limitations compared to more advanced platforms, these constraints led to a more focused, user-friendly solution. The app successfully transformed household management by reducing mental overhead and potential conflicts through clear task assignment and automation.
This project exemplifies my approach to application development – identifying everyday friction points and creating practical digital solutions. By automating mundane tasks, the app has created harmony in our shared living space, demonstrating how technology can effectively simplify complex social dynamics in daily life.
